1.0 PURPOSE

To give instructions on how to make procedures for preventive maintenance of DM plant.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP is applicable for the preventive maintenance of DM plant in pharmaceuticals.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Officer/ Executive, engineering, is responsible for implementing the preventive maintenance.

6.0 PRECAUTIONS

6.1 All safety procedures are applicable.

6.2 The maintenance must be carried out by trained engineering staff or an Appropriate Contractor.

7.0 PROCEDURE

7.1 Perform a yearly examination and replace any defective parts.

7.2 Grease bolts and nuts to stop corrosion and make removal simple while doing maintenance.

7.3 Every year, give the carbon and sand beds a thorough backwash.

7.4 Coat the internal surface of the sand bed with a layer of black bituminous paint once a year.

7.5 Examine the column’s interior every six months.

7.6 Apply a prolonged backwash to the appliance while leaving the top lid open.

7.7 Remove the collected small deposits from the resin surface and, if necessary, replace the resin.
7.8 Prepare an alkaline brine solution and add it during the anion infection step if the quality of the treated water begins to deteriorate along with prolonged anion resin treatment durations.

7.9 Regenerate the anion column in accordance with the instructions after the alkaline-brine wash.

7.10 Ensure that water enters the conductivity cell from the top.

7.11 Verify whether the site’s power outlet is operational.

7.12 Every six months, calibrate the meter.
